Abstract:

Introduction: In addition to Helicobacter pylori, non-Helicobacter pylori helicobacters (NHPHs) have been diagnosed in the humans stomach that caused gastrointestinal diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the coinfection of H. pylori with NHPHs species in patients with gastric disorders in Iran.   Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 421 gastric biopsies form dyspeptic patients, who did not receive any treatment for H. pylori. The samples were divided into H. pylori-infected and NHPHs-infected groups, based on the rapid urease test, histological analysis of biopsies, and genotyping. After DNA extraction, genotyping of samples was performed to detect H. pylori and NHPHs with PCR of encoding genes fragments for urease A (ure A), urease B (ure B) and urease AB (ure AB).   Findings: The results of the present study revealed that  57 patients (19%) had coinfection H. pylori with one of the NHPHs,10 patients (3.3%) has coinfection of H. pylori with NHPHs for H. suis,22 patients (7.3%) had coinfection of H. pylori with NHPHs H. salomonis,17 patients(5.7%) had coinfection of H. pylori with NHPHs for H. heilmannii (5.7%) ,and  8 patients (2.7%) had Coinfection of H. pylori with NHPHs for H. felis.   Discussion& Conclusions: Based on the results of the current study, it can be conclude that difficulties and failures in the treatment of H.pylori is probably due to the coinfection of H.pylori with NHPHs species ;however,  this conclusion requires further investigations.Additionally,in coinfection H. pylori with NHPHs, H. salomonis was found to be the most prevalent in Iranian patients with gastric disorders.

Non-pylori Helicobacters (NHPHs) Induce Shifts in Gastric Microbiota in Helicobacter pylori-Infected Patients

To explore the effects of gastric non-H. pylori Helicobacter species(NHPH) on the structure and potential function of gastric microbiota, we employed 16S rRNA gene sequencing on 164 gastric biopsy specimens from NHPH (H. suis, H. felis, H. salomonis) /H. pylori coinfection individuals, H. pylori monoinfection individuals and healthy controls. The results demonstrated that marked structural and ...

Experiences with Helicobacter Pylori Treatment in Iran

Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) infection is currently recognized as the major cause of chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and carcinoma of the stomach. Eradication of the infection will prevent the recurrence of the majority of such diseases. Different combined treatments have been tried in Iran for eradication of H. Pylori, but...

Analysis of KRAS gene mutation associated with Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with gastric cancer

Objective(s): KRAS proto-oncogene mutation can be considered a diagnostic factor for treating various malignancies. Helicobacter pylori infection, a risk factor for stomach cancer, may cause DNA damage and genetic changes. The aim of the current study was to assess the association of gastric cancer and KRAS mutation, demographic factors, and H. pylori infection.<...

Histological Changes In Gastric Biopsies From Helicobacter Pylori-Infected Patients With And Without Peptic Ulcer

Background and Objective: Long period risk of gastric carcinoma in people affected with chronic Helicobacter pylori gastritis is 5 times more than normal people. Perhaps histological changes due to helicobacter pylori infection could be used for screening people at risk of gastric carcinoma and peptic ulcer. Materials and Methods: This study has been carried out as a cross...

Presence of cagA Gene in Patients with Gastric Cancer and Gastritis with Helicobacter pylori Infection

Background and purpose: Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative, micro-aerophilic, and spiral-shaped bacillus. Infection with this bacterium can lead to gastritis, ulcers, and even gastric cancer. This study was conducted to evaluate the presence of the cagA gene among patients with gastritis and gastric cancer. Materials and methods: This study was performed in patients with gastritis (n=40) a...

Helicobacter Pylori in Patients Suffering from Pulmonary Disease

BACKGROUND Recently, research of indirect evidence suggested a possible association between Helicobacter pylori and pulmonary disease. This study aimed to determine if H. pylori could be detected in endobronchial specimens collected from patients undergoing bronchoscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective study was conducted on 34 consecutive patients with any type of lung disease undergo...
